Prince Henry's Institute research Professor Jock Findlay has been named an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in this year's Australia Day honours list.

Findlay, named a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2001, received the award for his services to medicine in the field of reproductive endocrinology. He was also cited for his contributions to the regulation and promotion of assisted reproductive technology and treatment, and to the development of national and international health programs.

Findlay was born in 1944 in Broken Hill and completed undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Adelaide. He joined Prince Henry's in 1979 and is head of the female reproductive endocrinology group. He was deputy director of PHI from 1990 to 2007.

He currently chairs the National Health and Medical Research Council embryo research licensing committee and is chair of the Infertility Treatment Authority of Victoria. He is also director of research at the Royal Women's Hospital, Melbourne.

He was given a Distinguished Scientist Award by the UK Society for Reproduction and Fertility in 2006.
