Associate Professor Matthew Gillespie has been appointed director of Prince Henry's Institute.

PHI is Australia's leading medical research institute investigating the role of hormones in the field of reproductive health.

Based at the Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, PHI also has research strengths in breast and ovarian cancer, diabetes, sex determination, obesity and cardiovascular disease.

Gillespie is currently an associate director at St Vincent's Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne. He has an international recognition for his research into hormones, bone biology and cancer.

Gillespie is an NHMRC principal research fellow and a past president of the Australian Society for Medical Research.

He will take up his new role next year.
