The University of Sydney will hold an inaugural Sydney Cancer Conference at the university campus in July.

The theme of SCC 2008 will be 'Research Translation: From Innovation to Practice' and is structured into three streams: basic biomedical cancer research, clinical and public health cancer research, and psychosocial aspects of cancer care.

The conference is organised by the Cancer Research Network, the University of Sydney's cross-faculty network involving basic and clinical researchers.

A public lecture on cancer clusters will be given by Professor Bruce Armstrong, the university's professor of public health and chair of the network.

Speakers will include Kenneth Kinzler of Johns Hopkins School in the US, psycho-oncologist Lesley Fallowfield from the University of Sussex and local researchers such as Matthew Vadas from the Centenary Institute in Sydney, Philip Hogg from the University of NSW and Roger Reddel from the Children's Medical Research Institute.

One of the organisers of the conference and network member is Professor Richard Christopherson from the School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences at Sydney University. He has taken his basic research into proteomics and developed a clinical application for cancer diagnostics, called the DotScan.

The conference will be held on Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th of July and all cancer researchers are invited to attend. See the conference website for more information.
