What is being dubbed the world's first full service diagnostics company is up and running following the integration of Bayer Diagnostics and Diagnostics Products Corporation (DPC) into global giant Siemens.

DPC was acquired by Siemens Medical Solutions in July 2006 and was merged into a single business, Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics, which became operational this month in Australia and New Zealand.

The general manager for the new company in Australia and New Zealand, Nino Totino, said it now employs over 100 people and combines medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics and clinical information technology (IT) under one roof, "bridging the gap between in vivo and in vitro diagnostics".

He said the new company has leading market positions in the fields of clinical chemistry, immunoassay and laboratory automation. It is also working in the rapidly growing markets of molecular diagnostics and gene analysis.
