Geelong superstar Jeremy Cameron signs waiver to eat highly poisonous delicacy

Geelong superstar Jeremy Cameron has joked about being forced to sign a waiver after eating one of the most dangerous delicacies in the world.

Cameron, who revealed he played through the entire 2026 season with a broken arm, put his body through another risk on Tuesday night when he tried Fugu.

Fugu, or Japanese pufferfish, contains a neurotoxin called tetrodotoxin, which can be fatal if the fish is incorrectly prepared. Only specialised chefs can prepare the dish, with training taking four years, and sometimes up to 10 years.

Cameron was at the Sapporo Supper Club and showed some brief hesitation before tucking in.

He could also see the funny side of being forced to sign a waiver to eat the food after the controversy surrounding teammate Jake Kolodjashnij’s concussion contract saga that was uncovered this year.

“It was slightly concerning walking in knowing … I had to sign a waiver and it’s been an interesting year with waivers and whatnot at Geelong,” he told 7NEWS.

“I haven’t informed the club on this one … but I’m not one to think about that beforehand.

“The pufferfish is extremely poisonous … it’s on the chef to pull out the poisonous parts, but he’s got a lot of experience so I back him in and it was actually quite nice.

Be the first to know:

“It’s interesting, I’m glad I can say I’ve done it, but I prefer the kingfish or a nice yellow fin tuna sashimi so I might stick to those in the future.”

Cameron has undergone post-season surgery on his troublesome arm that never really healed after the 2025 grand final.

His right forearm remains in a protective splint, but he is running every second day and has no regrets about playing through the pain in 2026.

He also suffered a nasty AC joint injury that saw him miss five weeks just before finals.

“It was a bit frustrating the year I had, I couldn’t really play to my full potential,” he said.

“It was one of those things that I found out quite early on, at the start of the season, that it wasn’t really healing much at all.

Basically I was relying on the plate all year. When that plate started to become a bit loose that’s when things got interesting, but the shoulder probably saved me in a way, having five weeks off to just breathe a little.

“It was an interesting year, that’s a part of footy, no one was forcing me to play but I wanted to be out there and help the team.”

The surgery included a bone graft taken from his hip to repair the break.

“And hopefully it all unites nicely. And, yeah, I’ve got two arms, mate, for next season,” Cameron added.

Meanwhile the superstar is excited to reunite for former GWS teammate and close friend Toby Greene, who joined the Cats as a free agent.

“To have a good mate come down gave me a lot of energy immediately. It got to a stage where I was concerned if he said no. In my head, I really believed it was going to be a good move for him,” Cameron said.

“When the call came, it was great. The first thing he said was, ‘You’d better get the arm right’. So that’s on me, to hold up my end of the bargain.”

Likewise, Cameron is rapt the Cats have brought in Essendon defender Jordan Ridley and St Kilda ruckman Rowan Marshall.

He is also super excited about the impending birth of his second child with wife Indiana due in the coming weeks.

“I can’t wait to not sleep again – I never thought I’d say that,” he said.

“(Daughter Macey said) we’re only allowed to have another sister, so I’m a little bit concerned if it’s a boy.”
