The internet is a treasure trove of coupon codes, so why aren’t you using them more often? As an online shopping expert, I think I get it: most people don’t want to do the leg work to find them. Well, guess what? You no longer have to. There’s a new Yahoo Shopping browser extension that runs on auto-pilot, doing the coupon clipping for you. This tool is free and easy to use, and it helps you instantly save money at thousands of major online retailers every single day.
In fact, I recently used the Yahoo Shopping Extension today to save more than $140 on gifts, home supplies and even a rental car — all directly from Walgreens, Sephora, Ulta and Hertz. Ordinarily, I would have never known there were dozens of secret discounts hiding in the shadows as I shopped, but the tool surfaced those promo codes in real time. Even better: For those who also have a Yahoo Mail address, it adds an extra level of automation, scanning your email for additional codes and discounts. And, with a single click, it applied any applicable savings to my purchase. This thing is literally a game changer.
Here’s exactly how I used the Yahoo Shopping Extension to pull promo codes and save big $$$
Now for the juicy part, where we uncover hidden promo codes and secret savings on thousands of popular sites, including CVS, GameStop, Chewy, Macy’s, Staples and many more. It was a very fruitful online shopping day for me — and a frugal one, because I used the Yahoo Shopping Extension to save more than $140, and you can too.
First, I hopped on over to Sephora, one of my favorite places to buy beauty products for myself and everyone on my shopping list. The first thing I saw was a purple Yahoo pop-up in the right hand corner of my screen letting me know that the tool found a whopping 15 hidden promo codes — jackpot! I loaded up my cart with goodies and scored $15 off (I’m a Sephora VIP member, so I was able to use members-only promos), plus one code entitled me to two free gifts!
Then I clicked over to my other favorite beauty destination, Ulta. Here I found just one promo code, but to my surprise and delight, it applied to several products. I ended up getting five mesh body exfoliators for $5 off in total with that promo code. I’ve repeatedly gifted these shower wonders that stretch so you can scrub your back — they’re a huge step up from wash cloths.
Next up was Walgreens, where the Yahoo Shopping Extension found an exciting 13 promo codes. I stocked up on household supplies and everyday items like lip balms, candles, candy, playing cards and even an electric toothbrush. My total came out to $120, but my promo codes got me $24 off.
Finally, I headed over to Hertz, where I needed to rent a small SUV for three days while I visited out-of-state relatives. This one was going to cost me more than $360 inclusive of fees. But then the extension applied a promo code for one free day — I saved $97.
Altogether, I saved $141 using the Yahoo Shopping Extension, and I didn’t have to spend time looking for codes manually. All I had to do was shop and then sit there like a kid on Christmas morning while the savings tool ran through each promo code and applied the valid ones. And you’re far from limited to the sites I shopped from — as I mentioned, this extension applies to thousands of e-commerce sites.
How do I set up the Yahoo Shopping Extension?
If you already use Google Chrome as your web browser, you’re in business. But if you don’t, you’ll have to download it here at the Chrome Web Store. This extension only works in Google Chrome, so you have to use this browser to do all your online shopping in order for the tool to serve up savings. It just so happens that Chrome is the most-used browser in the world, and it works with both PCs and Macs.
Once you have Chrome installed and open, it’s time to put the Yahoo Shopping Extension in its place. It’s so easy. On the Chrome Web Store’s Yahoo Shopping page, you’ll see “Add to Chrome” in a blue bubble in the upper righthand corner. Click that, and you’ll get a pop up that asks you to “Add Extension.” Click that too.
Next, you’ll be taken to a page prompting you to sign in to your Yahoo Mail. This is one of the best parts of the Yahoo Shopping Extension and what sets it apart from others: it’s specifically designed for Yahoo Mail users because it automatically pulls promo codes from your e-mail inbox and from the web. And honestly, we can use all the savings we can get, right?
When these steps are complete, the extension should appear right next to your toolbar — and if it doesn’t, just click those three dots all the way to the right, choose “Manage Extensions” and toggle the Yahoo Shopping Extension on; this pins it to your toolbar.
Can I pause or uninstall the Yahoo Shopping Extension?
Yes, if at any time you want to disable those purple pop-ups, you can turn off all alerts or turn them off for specific sites. If you choose to do this, you can still use the extension to find and apply promo codes at checkout.
If you decide you no longer want the Yahoo Shopping Extension for some reason, you can uninstall it, so it’s a risk-free endeavor. And if you miss it and want it back? One click will re-install the extension, and you’ll be on the road to savings again.
As you aim to shop smarter in 2025, now is the perfect time to give the Yahoo Shopping Extension a whirl. Not only will it help you score secret savings, but Yahoo’s shopping editors will help you find all the best products and deals throughout the year, regardless of the season.
